Lanka Ablaze

The Monkey stood before the wicked king;
in praise of Lord Ram did the Monkey sing.
A humble messenger of his Lord was he,
who came to warn this king to set Sita free.

"The wicked from justice can never escape!"
Thus warned the divine and wise Ape.
"Oh Demon-King, amend your ways!
Or else prepare to count your days!"

The mighty king was outraged at this.
"Set fire that tail of his!"
How dare this creature into my city storm
and threaten me (having caused enough harm)!

The tail which they set on fire,
swung right back and lit their pyre!
Across the city did the Vanara chase.
Lo! For Lanka was now ablaze!

The Mahabharatha – A Few Lines

The principles of Bhishma brought many a woe.
And the blindness of Dhritarashtra, even so.
But Lord Krishna’s mischief and Shakuni’s conspiracy,
engineered the most deadly battle of all eternity.
The test of the just to the end of the unjust;
where  brothers fought brothers, great men reduced to dust.
Thus on the plains of Kuru was fought
the epic battle which time never forgot…

Another Day at Mech Dept

1. Another day at Mech department, boredom has just gained a level.
I climb the stairs, ironically, once again to face each devil.
What’s going on? I don’t know. The board is peppered with Greek.
The prof rants on in Hindi, else it’s Marathi he chooses to speak.

2. One prof confesses, he’s teaching this sub for the very first time.
Attempting the same derivation for days, yet treats discussion as a crime.
He returns to class, after lunch, I suspect half asleep.
At this rate our chances to pass this sub slides down a slope so steep.

3. Another prof has his nose in the air. He answers no 'silly' doubts.
‘Get lost!’ and ‘Sheer nonsense!’ seem to be his favourite shouts.
For any question I ask him, his standard reply is ‘You should know!’
And hence I have no solution on paper for me to show.

4. Another prof is a silent comedian. I doubt he’s even a graduate.
He knows not what he’s teaching, yet he’s here for that’s our fate.
He has a special skill: to pass time discussing ‘nothing'.
How he got here even he knows not, so let’s not mock the poor thing.

5. I’m lost between these four walls, and I wish I could escape.
But if I do, I’ll lose the attendance I require to be in fair shape.
Perhaps every question is rhetorical, since it’s pointless guessing.
When I try to reason, they mock me as if it’s blasphemy I’m uttering.

6. I sit amidst smug faces who know exactly where they all want to be.
But all I know is that I’m going insane! Is it the system or is it just me?

Note: This poem is perhaps politically incorrect. But it is factually accurate. Professors mentioned in Stanzas 1, 2, 3, 4 are Kale, Barhatte, Dingre and Narwade respectively. I hope this poem made you smile. Students of my department cannot disagree with most of what I've mentioned. You've observed the same. But if this poem should cause any controversy, please inform me before I get into any trouble. And also, if this poem should be published anywhere, please do not mention the names of the professors. Thank you!

Part 4 - The Negotiation

This is a continuation of Part 3 - The Serpent

Earth would have been paradise...Alas! To keep God’s only word Man failed.
Thus for thousands of years and thousands more, evil on earth prevailed.
While the righteous hid from persecution, the sinful earth did rot.
But though Man had forgotten his Creator’s love, the Creator never forgot.

“Oh Lucifer, why did you of all choose a path so unwise?
Your desire for praise and wicked ways expelled you from Paradise.”

“I shall return this earth to you,” the sly Devil said. “if you give me your Son.”
“Amen!” The Lord said and with that the deal was done.
The Devil expected this not, but with this he was content.
To avenge the day the first Man was born was his malicious intent.

Thus God sent His own Son, who was born to the Virgin Mary.
Only he and the Lord knew the burden he would someday carry.

Exorcism

Pentagrams, incense sticks, incantations, the bell...
Tonight I shall send all my demons back to hell!
I pronounce every word with utmost precision...
I choose to put an end to this, and thus is my decision.

I sit to meditate... but I'm still bound to desires and fears...
I cannot focus on my task as the darkness now nears...
I hear their whispers calling my name again and again...
I rise up and rush towards somewhere safer then...

I run towards the temple, but swiftly they follow...
Everything I leave behind, the darkness shall swallow...
In my hand is a holy book, whose verses I chant...
I reach the gates, hoping that my pursuers can't...

I run past the chambers to the one deep within...
Hoping that some God shall relieve me from my every sin....

Second Thoughts on the Battlefield

Note: For those who do not know/understand the story of the Mahabharath, please refer to my narration.

How could I ever do this, Kanha? It's such a miserable deed!
I would rather run away, and live with only what I need.
I would rather surrender wealth, power, joy and fame
than ever slay my dear ones and live all my life in shame.

If this is my duty and true joy, I see why you equate sorrow and glee.
If defeat and victory don't differ, Krishna, I would now rather flee.
You say that I have a mission from which I cannot stray.
Then may I put this war aside and fight it another day?

How could I carry this burden and yet keep a smile upon my face?
How could I accept this misery, taking it to be your grace?
You have provided better to the lesser; is this all MY life comes to?
I give up, oh Keshava! Tell me what could I do?

Note:

1. Some of these questions have been adopted from Arjuna's role in the Bagavad Gita. They have been twisted to suit mine.
